Step Two
Register to attend an advising and registration workshop
As a new UConn student, you need to learn how to choose the best courses for your intended area of study. In the workshop, we will discuss your intended major and the required courses you should take. Every academic program is different, so the workshop ensures that you are getting the proper information for your area of academic interest. We will also teach you how to build a schedule. Before you leave, you will have registered for your fall semester courses, and feel confident in making course choices in the future.
Part of being a college student is growing in independence and in self responsibility. Your parents have helped you to this stage of independence, and we are continuing that growth by designing the registration workshop for you to attend by yourself. If, however, you are more comfortable with a parent accompanying you, parents may attend the first part of the presentation, where they can learn with you all the requirements for earning a degree. We think it is very important that you practice making course choices and building a schedule without relying on your parents, though, so while you are developing your course schedule we will offer your parents a "talk and tour" of the campus.
The advising and registration workshop takes approximately three hours. Each session is limited to 20 students so that we can provide individual advising to each student. Because every piece of information we present is absolutely critical, students who arrive late are not permitted to enter the workshop, so please plan on arriving about 15 minutes early!
Follow this link to choose an advising and registration session. Please note that some sessions are reserved for a particular constituency. Confirmation of your registration session will be e-mailed to you.
After you choose your workshop, you should continue to:
